Discover Zeitz MOCAA at the V&A Waterfront — Africa's first major museum of contemporary art, housed in a spectacular converted grain silo. Entry, exhibitions, and tours.
Carved from inside a 1920s grain silo by architect Thomas Heatherwick, Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) is a cathedral of contemporary African creativity. With 100+ galleries across 9,500 square metres, it's the largest museum of contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora in the world.
The Architecture
The building itself is the first masterpiece. Heatherwick's team sliced a 27-metre-tall atrium through the concrete grain tubes, creating a space that resembles a futuristic cathedral. The tubular geometry of the original silo is visible everywhere — in the curved walls, the oval windows, and the pillowed glass façade that glows at night.
Above the museum sits The Silo Hotel, Cape Town's most exclusive address, with glass-walled rooms overlooking the V&A Waterfront and Table Mountain.
